What Really Happens to Your Body After Vacation (And Why You Shouldn’t Panic)

If you’ve ever come back from vacation feeling bloated, sluggish, or disappointed in your InBody check-in… you’re not alone.

What You Might Notice After Vacation

Even if you don’t go completely off the rails, vacations usually bring:

  • Less structured movement (fewer steps, no training)

  • More processed food, alcohol, and sodium

  • Disrupted sleep or time zone changes

  • Higher carb intake and lower hydration

The result?
On your InBody scan, you might see:

  • A spike in weight (usually water retention)

  • A bump in body fat %

  • A drop in skeletal muscle mass

  • That “off” feeling during workouts


But Here’s What’s NOT Actually Happening

  • You didn’t gain 5 pounds of fat in five days.

  • Your body composition didn’t permanently shift.

  • You didn’t ruin your progress.

Most of these changes are short-term responses to food, water, movement, and sleep fluctuations—not a true loss in fitness or strength.


How to Bounce Back Without Beating Yourself Up

After vacation, the worst thing you can do is panic and try to “fix it” with extremes.

Instead:

  • 💧 Hydrate — Aim for 80–100 oz/day

  • 🍗 Prioritize protein — Helps reset digestion and muscle recovery

  • 🏋️ Get back to your normal training routine — Don’t skip sessions

  • 🚫 Don’t restrict calories too hard — This can actually make things worse

  • 😌 Trust the process — In 3–5 days, your body will likely normalize
